GTC Students Show off their Creative Talents

National Symphony Orchestra presents The Teddy Bear Concert at McNabb!

McNabb staff and students thoroughly enjoyed a special performance by the National Symphony Orchestra last week. “It's a big bear world out there, and every bear has its own look and growl.” The Teddy Bear Concert helped our kids take a traveling adventure around the world to peek at these adorable creatures and the sounds of their homelands--music that is as unique as they are. With NSO musicians Elisabeth Adkins and Paula Akbar, violin, Lewis Lipnick, bassoon, and Joe Connell, percussion, as well as narrator Lynne-Jane Forman, this performance assembled a wild combination of instruments in order to create global music!

Thank You, George Wilson! We learned a lot from your show!

McNabb 4th and 4th grade students had a blast in the Tilghman auditorium on January 31 when they attended the first annual George Wilson Fun Day. This interactive Quiz Master Game show brought to Paducah students from Buffalo, New York was fun and educational. The audience and participants discussed healthy eating and exercise habits as they played a few rounds of Family Feud and other team contests. We really appreciate you for coming back to Paducah and keeping us in shape, George. And did we mention it was so much fun?!

The 2nd Grade would like to offer their most enthusiastic appreciation to their United Way "Reading Buddies." These adult volunteers from United Way meet with a McNabb student once a week from October to May for one-on-one reading tutoring. The volunteers represent a number of businesses and industries in Paducah who realize that children are our most valuable resource for the future. Thank You, United Way Reading Buddies! Your mentoring services are making a true impact on the lives of McNabb students!

Congratulations to the 5th grade students who completed the Fall 2010 Nutrition, Cooking, and Fitness classes sponsored by Mr. Bradley of McNabb's Kids Company Too! At the conclusion of their sessions, the students prepared and served a meal for their families.

Reading, More Than Words - Mobile Ed. Productions

The magic of reading, brought to life! August 20, 2010 marked the first special program of the year at McNabb Elementary with Mr. Dave Mitchell's Reading, More Than Words show. With an entertaining tour through the history of language, the students explored the many advantages of reading for your brain, including increased concentration and memory. To demonstrate these mighty mind principles, Mr. Mitchell described his extensive reading habits and fascinated students with his own mental magic!
